Egypt's Government: How it has evolved over time
Past:
Their king or ruler was called a pharaoh which controlled all of Egypt( lower and upper). He made the laws and collected the taxes from the Egyptians. Everything belonged to the pharaoh including the Egyptians' land and houses. He also protected Egypt by maintaining the peace between neighboring civilizations so the Egyptians wouldn't be attacked. The pharaoh couldn't do all of this by himself. That's why he had officials that would help collect the taxes, ad they would make sure the Egyptians would obey the pharaoh. The Vizier was the pharaoh's most important official, and he also had priests and scribes that would write and help control the Egyptians for him. The governments duties were to mostly maintain the civilization, and to help keep track of what was going on. The pharaoh's position was passed on through generations of sons when they passed away. The new pharaohs had to become experts at hunting and using a bow and arrow, they needed to learn how to drive a chariot, and they needed to know how to command and control an army. In simple words, the pharaoh controlled all of Egypt, and had all the power.
Present:
Egypt's form of ruler today is a president who is elected for a six years per term. Egypt's president is Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and their Prime Minister is Ibrahim MalLab. Egypt's type of government is a republic meaning the citizens of Egypt get to vote for their government representatives like the president and vice president. In Egypt, there are 27 governorates. Governorates are just like states, are controlled by a governor. On February 28, 1922, both Lower and Upper Egypt were united through political and government reasons.
How has Egypt's government from the past shape how their government is today?
In ancient Egypt, they had a king which was called the pharaoh. Now they have a president which is just like the pharaoh, so Egypt continued their government with some type of ruler. Instead of being divided into just two parts, they are divided into 27 parts, but they are still under the same ruler. Ancient Egypt's government has shaped Egypt's present government because it branched out, but still kept some of the same rituals that ancient Egypt had.
